To God Be The Glory!

The First Christmas

JOHN 3 : 16 "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life."

We all know this verse, don't we? As a believer, I'm sure we are familiar enough with the story of baby Jesus. It was when Mary was still a virgin prior to her marriage with Joseph. The angel once appeared and told her that she was going to get pregnant. Mary was so scared and confused, but the angel calmed her down and reminded her to name the child, JESUS. Mary told her soon-to-be husband. The angel was right. As the three wise men were following the bright star, Mary rode on a donkey with Joseph walked beside her, all of them finally met in Bethlehem where Mary gave birth at the inn. There were some shepherds looking after their sheep not far from where they held the Baby. The angel suddenly showed up and said, "Don't worry, I've come to tell you some happy news, The Son of God has been born in Bethlehem tonight, go and see Him." The three wise men arrived that night bearing gold, frankincense, and myrrh. The men worshiped Jesus and thanked God for sending Him to the world. That's when the Christmas time is.

That is only a brief story i could tell you. I got the story inspiration from Storynory. I have prepared some questions on Kahoot that we might want to do it together. You should read the story before doing it. So i have left the links (Kahoot and Storynory) below please check it out and feel free to give your fancy comments! God bless you :)

QUIZIZZ IS...

To host an undull class, every teacher must has an exciting and interesting topic or material. An interesting material could be presented through ice breaking such as games and quizes. In CALL class, our lecturer introduced us these quiz websites; kahoot, quizizz, and socrative. Among these websites, personally the most preferable website is quizizz. It is very accessible and one of the greatest way to review before a real test plus it is free.
Quizizz is an alternative to Kahoot and there's also a lot for educators to like. It is very similar to Kahoot, with a few differences.
Just like kahoot, a teacher or student host choose a quiz to begin. There will be a five digit code which every student must enter along with their username.
The only weakness is that we have to play this site with friends because we cannot play by ourselves.

DEAR FUTURE STUDENTS, FROM ME

FANCY SELF - ENRICHMENT SITES FOR STUDENTS

According to Gomez-Martinez’s journal, in teaching and learning languages, it is precisely the listening skill one of the most difficult to teach and acquire, and that is why proficiency levels tend to be very low (Gomez, 2005 & 2008B). In order to overcome this difficulty, to improve our students’ listening skills and prepare them to be real listeners who can cope with real listening situations, the ICT ( Infomation and Communication Technology)  have become an excellent help for both teachers and students.

Our students today are all  “native speakers” of all the digital language of computers, video games and the Internet. So what does that make the rest of us? Those of us who were not born into the digital world but have, at some later point in our lives, become fascinated by and adopted many or most aspects of the new technology are, and always will be compared to them, Digital immigrants. (Prenski, 2001).

As we all live in the twentieth century, everything literally every thing can be found on the internet. We can totally browse every little detail on google or any other websites. They are available 24/7. Prior to this CALL class, i have never imagined i would find these websites my lecturer, Prsika, gave me. These are very useful methods to teach students. Very beneficial and easy to use, fun too.

  1. The Internet TESL journal
  2. ESL Video
  3. Breaking news English
  4. Jamie Keddie's Videotelling
Among those four websites, i personally really love ESL the most. ESL is a common abbreviation which stands for English as Second Language. Why i love it so much is rather obvious since it provides a lot of videos and quizes. It is so fun and easily practiced. It will present you some of videos that you would choose then there are questions just like "missing lyrics" quiz. You will be scored in the end. This will be the website that i'm going to use to teach my future students so get ready kids!

The other 3 websites are as fun and easy as ESL. The Jamie Keddie's Videotelling also presents many videos that you would really be so curious about. They will explain more about what the videos are about just in case we don't pay enough attention or miss some important points. For those who doesn't want to get left behind, as in lacking of nowadays' world news, you can try to access Breaking News English. They allow you to read the most update articles and you practically practice your English skill through reading and writing, don't you?

Go give it try! I will attach the link below :)

WHAT IS ELT?

Computer Assisted Language Learning
Known as CALL is a class which needs interaction between teacher and learners. In order to have an effective and most efficient way for studying, both parties must cooperate well during and after class. If we notice that nowadays information technology is transforming our societies and our lives and even, eventually our minds, rather than creating alternate worlds using Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
ELT is an abbreviation for English Language Teaching. The teaching of English to speakers of other language. From the TESL-EJ "Blogging in the Language Classroom : It doesn't "Simply Happen" " by Carla Arena and Casa Thomas Jefferson.
This will create a situation of diglossia, with people using their own native languages for local or regional communication and commerce, but still using English for most international communication and commerce on the internet. Children who grow up with computers and the internet will communicate on them with "native-like" fluency, as opposed to our generation that had to make the transition from print to screen.
A final change will be from lab to classroom. Computers and other online devices will be found in every classroom n developed countries, not just in computer laboratories. This is just an introduction from the history of developing technology which in particular the using of the internet for children at home and in classroom. This historical passage will lead us now to discuss more about how to use the internet well in the classroom.
Quoting from Edutopia by Richardson, he said that this is a world where literacy is changing, where readers need to be editors. Now that anyone can publish just about anything in heartbeat, checking for facts and revelance often occurs after publication.
This is, indeed, a changed world. From the realities of war to the fears of avian flu and global-warming crisis.
But he wondered whether, twenty-five or fifty years from now, when four or five billion people are connecting online, the real story of these times won't be the more global tests and transformations these technologies offered.
How, as educators and learners, did we respond?
Did we embrace the potentials of a connected, collaborative world and put our creative imaginations to work to renovasion our classrooms?
Did we use these new tools to develop passionate, fearless, lifelong learners?
Did we ourselves become those learners?
Or did we cling to old ideas, old models, and old habits and drift more fully into irrelevance in our students' eyes?
To answer those tricky questions, we need to be renewed, upgraded, and improve self more towards this upcoming more modern and changes this world could ever be. Through blogging, for example, we help those who are still lack of the internet knowledge so that they could be more knowledgeable and are not left behind. Not only can we publish our writings in blogs, but also to comment other blogs and above all, communication. Learners will have to get used to the blogging experience to learn how to properly answer posts, how to cite, and how to establish their own blogging tone through their posts. In that way, they find their unique channel of communication in the target language. Forget not, blogging gives this sense of belonging to writers and readers. They can build chemistry and engage in meaningful conversation which for both sides are matters.

QUIZLET : AN INTERACTIVE VOCBULARY FOCUS

ENTERING UNIVERSITY USING QUIZLET

Based on what i found in Wikipedia, Quizlet is a mobile and web-based study application used by 1-in-2 high school students and 1-and-3 college students in the United States.
Quizlet trains students via flashcard and various games and tests. In 2016, Quizlet was recognized by SimilarWeb as the fastest growing US Educational site in 2015.

To be honest, i just knew this website from the CALL Lecture. For me personally, i really enjoy using this website since we all can create our own test practices, questions and games. It was easily accessible and fun. This website really helps us to be high technology teachers in the future. Not only does it help to make questions and tests, but also allow us to practice our English vocabularies through fun games which will definitely trigger us to study and learn more and more words and sentences. Wikipedia also say that Quizlet holds an annual language competitions in French, German, and Spanish.

Study Methods and Games :
In order to help us memorize the vocabularies, Quizlet provides the users to create "sets" of terms customized for their own needs. Theses sets of terms can then be studied in the methods whichever we would like. There are

  • Flashcard - It is similar to paper flash card. It shows the users a "card" from each team. Users can click to flip over the card, or use their arrow keys, and see the definition for that term.
  • Gravity - Choose the level : easy, medium, hard. Users must type the term (in asteroids) that goes with the definition before it reaches the bottom of the screen (earth).
  • Learn - Users are shown a term of definition and must type the term or definition that goes with what is shown. They will automatically record your grade.
  • Long-Term Learning - Users are given a recommended study set based on whether or not they answer study set questions correctly. Less repetition, incorrect answers, punctuality will be most needed.
  • Speller - The term is read out loud and users must type in the term with the correct spelling.
  • Match - Users are presented with a grid with terms scattered  around it. Users must drag terms on top of their associated definitions to remove them from the grid and try to clear the grid in the fastest time possible.
Quizlet provides an Application Programming Interface (API) that allows others to access Quizlet data. Available functions include uploading the downloading flashcards, modifying users' flashcards, and finding definitions created by Quizlet users, is also available on android application.

Here is my quizlet example. So glad if you all can give it a try and let us see the score :) Good Luck
